OVERARCHING VENUE STRATEGY

The venue for this Boiler Room should be located in Laventille.

Laventille is the classic hood in the western world: plagued by crime and depicted as a warzone by the media, but responsible for a significant portion of the rich culture that the larger society enjoys. Laventille is arguably the oldest black settlement on the island and it is the birthplace of the steelpan; Laventille respresents resillience and ingenuity in the face of blatant systemic oppression.

1st Choice: STUDIOFILMCLUB

STUDIOFILMCLUB is a film screening studio and bar that doubles as Peter Doig's main studio in Trinidad & Tobago. Located in Laventille, STUDIOFILMCLUB used to screen a film selected by Peter every Thursday. Peter painted a poster for each of the films screened at SFC.

SFC used to be a premiere warehouse location for parties and events in the arts community, but Peter has since picked up a lot of work in NYC and London, thus minimizing his time in Trinidad. With a series of conversations and a proper heads up, Peter would be open to hosting Boiler Room for a one-off event in the SFC studio space.

2nd choice: PANLAND FACTORY

Panland is a steel pan factory based in Laventille. Panland doubles as a successful global enterprise and a cultural institution in the Laventille community, providing youths with jobs as well as serving as the stage and convening location for the Laventille Steelband Street Festival every year.

Panland has indoor space for a small event, but also an outdoor yard space that can work well for a slightly larger audience.
